Introduction

Copenhagen Prospective Studies on Astma in Childhood (COPSAC) is a research unit under the Danish Childhood Asthma Centre. Its aim is to understand the reason for asthma, eczema and allergy in small children and to translate this into clinical practice so as to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

COPSAC also researches the significance of the mother's diet and genetic disposition and bacterial flora in infants’ airways and is currently observing two maternity units where they are recording data - the COPSAC2000 cohort comprising 411 children with asthmatic mothers and the COPSAC2010 cohort comprising 738 pregnant women and their 700 children. COPSAC also serves as a health centre for about 1,100 families who visit the clinic regularly.
