Introduction

The Danish Center for Strategic Research into type 2 diabetes (DD2) collates data on patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. In signing up to the project, subjects are asked to provide blood and urine samples and to complete a questionnaire.

The purpose of DD2 is to normalise metabolism in newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients so as to prevent complications from diabetes and to improve quality of life. The associated data is to be used to improve prognoses and to form the starting point for constructing a platform for personalised treatment.

The project is based on information on patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after 1 January 2009. Participation is voluntary but the project aims to get all individuals with diabetes in coming years to be automatically included in the project.
