Introduction

Open Biobank (OPEN) is anchored at the University of Southern Denmark, and contains biological material from various projects.

OPEN's mission is to increase and strengthen clinical research in Region Southern Denmark and at the Clinical Department. OPEN helps researchers start up clinical studies, gather and store biological samples and clinical data and facilitates register-based research on clinical cohorts.

The research unit under OPEN is active in a range of research fields, and focuses especially on register research, epidemiology research (including clinical, pharmaco and generic epidemiology) and nursing research.

OPEN was inaugurated in September 2008 as part of OUH's research strategy for 2007-2012, and it remains part of OUH's new research strategy for 2016-2020. The research strategy, as well as OPEN, has been established in close cooperation with the Clinical Institute of Southern Denmark. On 1st January 2018, OPEN opened its doors to researchers in regional hospital units and it now covers the whole of Region Southern Denmark.
